As fontes místicas e cosmológicas do "castelo interior" de Teresa D'Ávila

Na obra Castelo Interior ou Moradas, Teresa de Jesus, mística do Renascimento espanhol, encarou a tarefa de descrever suas experiências extáticas. Semelhante a outros místicos, não o poderia fazer sem interpretar e mediatizar uma experiência que é supralinguística. Por isso recorreu ao simbolismo. Comparou a alma a sete castelos ou globos concêntricos de cristal ou diamante. Esses castelos simbolizam as etapas da ascensão da alma. O Castelo Interior é “a árvore da vida que está plantada nas mesmas águas vivas que é Deus”. (1M 2,1). É inequívoca sua relação com a cabala, mais especificamente com a literatura judaica, conhecida como Hechalot (Palácios).
