Motivação e liberdade: a superação do determinismo psicofísico na investigação fenomenológica de Edith Stein

Abstract

In this article I aim to renew the perspective in which Edith Stein clarifies the psychic causality since the phenomenological methods. Considering the way how she developed this investigation in her Contributions to foundation of psychology and sciences of spirit, I try to answer the following question: Has the human being the possibility to initiate a freely act, which that it begins a causal connection in the word, based in pure rational motivations to the action? If the answer to this question is “yes”, what conditions are necessary for that? I understand that Stein’s investigation about the motivation as psychic causality can furnish not only answers to the problem of freedom, but it can also presents the horizon in which occurs an overcoming of psychophysical determinism.
