Abstract

The popular religious practices in Brazil are important and complex phenomena. They are study objects of human and social sciences, and they represent a fundamental factor for the building and consolidation of Brazilian identity. The origin of these practices can be search in Brazilian colonization and evangelization processes and in it social structure. The bodies and culture mestization that gave origin to Brazilian people is responsible by crossings and mixtures, adaptations and innovations those form the mosaic of their religious practices.
