The protototalitarian elements of our world: reflecting on what we are doing in the company of Hannah Arendt and Odílio Alves Aguiar

This article aims to present the concept of protototalitarianism and the protototalitarian elements present today according to Hannah Arendt and Odílio Alves Aguiar. After an initial examination of the terminology, we will present both an interpretation of the meaning of the concept and why it can be considered not only from an ethical-political perspective, but above all from a narrative perspective. Next, some of its main characteristics will be examined: the massification-loneliness dyad, the communicational change introduced into politics by propaganda and ideologies, and the bureaucratization of the public sphere.
