Starting analysing the process of Islam’s development and the reception of Greek philosophical thought in the medieval Arab world, we intend in this paper to discuss the existence or not of a philosophy of religion in Islamic philosophical thought. Therefore, the way in which the Greek philosophical texts were inserted in the centers of Arabic translation and interpretation is considered because it was fundamental in the scenario of establishment of the Islamic philosophical tradition. In this way, it can be observed the central characteristics that Arab philosophy acquires in the context of the expansion of Islam and verify if the falsafa has a status
of independence or dependence of the religious purposes. In other words, if we canfind in th islamic context a philosophy of religion or a philosophy for religion.
