O Nome “Ceará” é de origem hebraica e significa “chuva torrencial, tempestade violenta e repentina”. De fato o Segundo Livro dos Reis, no capítulo segundo, versículos 1 e 11, apresenta o vocábulo se arâ (substantivo feminino singular absoluto) junto com a partícula preposicional b. Tal vocábulo denota vários significados na língua hebraica, como, “tempestade luminosa (com raios, relâmpagos), redemoinho”.
