Cordel literature in a decolonial perspective: the Brazilian way of doing

Abstract

This article of ours intends to discuss cordel literature from a decolonial perspective, in the sense that, having a European origin, brought by the Portuguese, in Brazil it gained its own shape and dimension, breaking, in discourse, in aesthetics, in theme, with its European past. At first, we will see what decolonial thinking is and how it works in practice, and then we will analyze whether cordel had a decolonial actitud. We will approach the role of Leandro Gomes de Barros, considered the Father of cordel and his contribution to the Brazilianization of cordel. We intend to show cordel as a Brazilian literature and that, as such, must be treated and worked on in its national manifestation.
