Uma breve introdução ao conceito de pós-modernidade
Keywords:
Technology. Communication. Consumerism.Abstract
This article aims to make possible the reflection on the concept of postmodernity, from a perception of the social and cultural changes that happened in the middle of the twentieth century, more precisely the technological revolution in the means of information and communication. For that, we have as main theoretical reference the work of David Lyon: Post-Modernity; in this the author starts from the idea of providence, in which God is the provident Father. However, in modernity, this idea loses its meaning, since this era sees the project of the Enlightenment fail: the maximum expression of the idea of progress, which believed in a humanity enlightened by reason. This is the motive of postmodern individuals to reject every foundation, since the progress that would lead humanity to its emancipation actually led to death. In this context, some concepts will be fundamental for understanding the period covered, such as nihilism and consumerism. Thus, for Lyon, the latter is the basic imperative of postmodernity, which means that the analysis of consumer culture is the condition of possibility of understanding the postmodern phenomenon.
