Abstract

The singularity can be understood, from Kurzweil, as a process in which the cognitive capacity of artificial intelligence far exceeds human natural intelligence, with the necessity, in view of the survival of the human species, for it to integrate substantially with superintelligent machines. Faced with this rearrangement of life, the singularity project conjectures a future scenario composed of the presence of superintelligent non-biological entities, human beings instantiated in uploads and gradual transformations of biological human beings into non-biological human beings. In view of this prognosis, this article aimed to investigate the singular proposal to transcend biology, as well as its complaint about the need for a new configuration in the relationship between human beings, technology and other forms of life. In conclusion, the article postulates that it is possible and probable that human beings, through the process of singularity, manage to transcend their biology, however, there are ethical challenges in this process that cannot be avoided, such as the risks of subjecting human bodies to radical changes and the need to overcome values and not just technical barriers to make singularity viable.
